Hi! In this post, we will talk about the presences in distance learning. So, what are the types of presence in distance learning? There are three types of presence in distance learning. These are cognitive, social and teaching presences.

Before sorting the types of presence in online learning, let's find out what the presence means. There are a variety of meanings for online presence, but I believe the best terms are "being there" and "being together" Students can learn better when technology is transparent, or when the resources such as a laptop or a learning management system that carry learning to the student disappear into the background. It's not about the technology of online learning; it's about the learning experiences  and being there!

Now it is time to learn the types of presence in distance learning. Firstly ,the capacity of learners to create meaning through reflection and communication in an online environment is referred to as cognitive presence. In a learning environment, cognitive presence necessitates attention, commitment, and involvement from both instructors and students.

Secondly, The ability to project oneself socially and affectively and get to know each other as three-dimensional individuals despite not meeting face-to-face is referred to as social presence. The basis of building confidence and presence for teaching and learning experiences is social presence. How do you go about doing this? What habits aid in the development of social presence? The simplest and most natural form of presence to achieve is social presence. Students are encouraged to share who they are by sharing where they live, their families, their pets, and who they are as people, including their likes and dislikes. Connecting with your students can be as easy as posting a photo of your favorite location or whether you go to Starbucks every morning. You want to inspire the students to interact with one another and become true to one another. One way to help your learners create these connections is to design ways for them to share more about who they are.

Finally, The work of teaching that is performed before and during the course is referred to as teaching presence. It covers all of the planning and development work for the course, as well as the hands-on instruction of leading and assisting students during the course delivery. The syllabus, assignments, reading selections, and discussions all represent the presence of the instructor. Anything you do to direct, help, and shape the learners' experiences reflects your teaching presence. Effective teaching presence establishes clear goals and offers constructive feedback.
